GeoAdjust Headset Tuning

|

The GeoAdjust Headset was one of our most anticipated features when developing Revved frames over the last year. Ten millimeters of reach adjustment doesn’t sound like a lot, but if you’ve ever found yourself between frame sizes, it’s just what Doctor Rock prescribes. To some, this will let you dial in your fit and comfort on the bars. To others, it’ll let you fine tune your handling by changing the stem length and wheelbase.

If you’re comfortable swapping out the stem or bars on your bike, you have the skills necessary to adjust your GeoAdjust Headset. A slip fit with an o-ring holds the cups in place even if you remove your fork, and an angular contact design ensures that there won’t be any wobbling or knocking under loads. And when it comes time to replacing bearings, those drop right into the cups, so it’s easy to service down the road.

Follow these steps to adjust your GeoAdjust Headset:

  1. Loosen the stem bolts where they clamp to the steerer
  2. Drop the fork
  3. Flip the cups around
  4. Torque the top cap to 5-7 Nm and you’re done!

Typically you wouldn’t torque a headset, so tighten it down to the point where you feel the bearings begin to bind and back off a little bit. This will ensure that the GeoAdjust cups are tightened into place.

If you see yourself wanting to play around with the headset positioning frequently, you can leave 10-15 mm of spacers above the stem so that you never have to completely drop the fork to move the cups around.

Tuning tips:

  1. GeoAdjust in the Short position: more upright fit on the bike, quicker turn-in when initiating corners.
  2. GeoAdjust in the Long position: more stretched out fit on the bike, increased stability at high speeds. It’s like hitting the turbo button!
  3. Lower cup adjustments:
    1. The Smash and Trail Pistol (29” bikes)
      1. 0 mm cup - default
      2. 15 mm cup - raises the BB height slightly for better pedaling clearance, slackens the head tube angle around .5 degrees. Recommended for ledgy desert riding.
    2. Megatrail and Shred Dogg (27.5” bikes)
      1. 15 mm cup - default
      2. 0 mm cup - lowers the BB for stable cornering, steepens the head tube angle around .5 degrees. Recommended for slalom racing and flow trail fun.
